This Viewpoint reviews the rationale and evidence for implementing bundled hospital payments for cardiac care and argues that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' 2017 cancellation of a bundled payment plan for acute myocardial infarction care and coronary artery bypass surgery procedures dims prospects for a health care system that focuses on value rather than volume.
