Real-Time Benefit Tools for Clarifying Drug Prices at the Time of Prescription

This Viewpoint proposes ways to implement the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ requirement that Medicare Part D plan sponsors implement electronic health record–integrated real-time drug benefit tools to help physicians and patients have point-of-care medication cost information, calling for use of standardized price information and demonstration projects to ensure the rule does not impose unnecessary administrative and technological burden on clinicians.
